'Breaker 1 / 9..Looks like we got us a Convoy!'
Dating from it's release in 1978 Convoy has become something of a cult classic. With a simple uncluttered story it is an exercise in the rough tough macho world of America's truck driving community. It is lightweight and funny but also with a hint of 'gravitas' from the quality input of Ernest Borgnine (dirty Lyle) the corrupt cop. .Also at the time of its release, here in the UK we were successfully lobbying the government to allow CB radio to be used here. Thus making the film all the more relevant to it's era...Convoy is what it is and taken in a retro context it remains a feel-good watch which fulfils a certain mood.
