QUIET FLOWS THE DON
Quiet Flows The Don is based on the Nobel -Prize winning novel by Mikhail A. Sholokov and tells the story of a Cossack family from the Russian town of Melechov. It took a mamouth effort in editing to trim the film down to a watchable 177 minutes. It has everything imaginable about the lives of small town inhabitants ranging from Adultery to a betrayal of loyalty of enthusiastic soldiers of The Czar, and his ner-do-well Generals. Life is always hard, and the peasants are for ever being exploited by the rich landowners. Quite an eye opener and accurate insight of Russia before the Russian Revolution. An excellent companion movie to Dr Zhivago, well worth owning and watchable over and over. DAVID COX
