I have an old 7 or 8 hp Briggs on a log splitter and was having issues with ignition. I had replaced the points and condenser and still had issues, so I decided to start part swapping parts and give this coil a try. I must note, there were no instructions with the coil and I had no idea what the "new style" meant! The new style has the solid state ignition built in, which eliminates the points and condenser altogether!!!! I'm all about that! To install, you just take the old coil off, cut off the wire coming out of the points, bolt this one on, hook up the spark plug lead and go. The female spade terminal is for a kill switch. On my application, it is unnecessary because the motor has a thingy to ground out the spark plug. But if you ground this spade terminal I assume it kills the engine. I now have a nice hot and reliable spark. Quite proud of myself for running across this new style of coil. Never screw with points again! You may never have to take the flywheel off your motor again--you don't need to when installing this coil. Just cut off the wire coming out from behind the flywheel and move on.
