For Completist? Maybe.
If you love or are a completist of W.C. Fields movies then buy this immediately. If you're on the fence be aware. The movies are not the super best by our hero. I mean, I could watch these once a month until i die but I'm a super fan of W.C. To me W.C. Fields, Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges and many more... are a very important part of my life. This box set is worth every penny. The box is awesome! Easy to use and very appealing in the looks department. The Movie quality is Very Good. Not amazing but the prints look and sound good. My ONLY complaint is... Why are there 5 discs here? The "longest movie is 1 hr. & 14 minutes! It DOES make it easier to find and play the movies. Could that be the 'reason' there are 5 disc's? Some Very Enjoyable Cinematic History.
The second collection of W. C. Fields films contains some of his lesser known films, including some "pre-code" films. If you watch the films in both volumes in chronological order, you can see the development of Fields' unique view of life, and especially of family life. Whether or not you take the chronological approach or not, you will enjoy yourself. Great collection of a great comic!
A few of the movies were duds, but they were very light on the plot and heavy on the “guest appearance.” But then you need to realize that these films were before television and some movies were intended to be variety shows. Some were just an interesting evening watching an old movie, but most had some great “laugh out loud” moments. And there was nothing that would keep you from letting kids see it. A beautiful set of films- great reproduction for films of that vintage.
