Straight to the point regarding a slice in time of the past!
I really enjoyed this DVD. The whole thing for me told a story of "A Time In The Past and a struggle in that time period for those that had to endure it's problems!" This film is not for everyone I would say and that's why I always take my view and that's the only way I can think of to be fair! We are all different and we all have an opinion "AND NOW YOU HAVE MINE!" It's not just a story to me with, "A Mushy Past & Made For Entertainment Value!" I'm aware that life was Very hard over there at these times in Ireland as I've been told this as it's been passed down within my family as part of my ancestry "Witnessed Similar Times!" "That's It My Rant Is Over!"

Powerful Story Set in Rural Ireland
I was intrigued to see this film, as I didn't know about it, especially as two of my favourite actors were in it. John Hurt, as always, gives a superb performance as "Bird" the village half wit. A powerful performance from Richard Harris as Bull, albeit on times his Irish accent slipped back into his Welsh accent. A strange film to find another huge favourite of mine in, Tom Berenger... Who plays the American, who is up against the Bull in bidding for the field. It is a very dark story set in rural Ireland probably mid twentieth century, which portrays how poor and desperate they could become back then....desperate enough to kill for

Powerful
Although the cinematography is a bit dated, the film still works. Acting superb and catches the mood of the time and place. Land has always been everything to the Irish and is almost a cultural necessity. A small village with the every present priest - who wields enormous power - but there is usually a strong, dominant figure in contention with the priest. Really highly recommended - despite the lack of technology.

Irish drama
Great film. I love it. Great actors, powerful drama set in rural Ireland in the early 1900's.

A great film that gives an insight it to how it was. The importance of land and the harsh way of life. Well worth seeing. You can feel the simple way of life in the thatched stone cottage with the open fire and soda bread on the table. The desperation in the farmers life.

Nobody Comes Between Me And My Field
The Field is one of the best movies ever. Characters are brilliantly portrayed and the importance of a piece of land in rural Ireland clearly defined. Maybe it's symptomatic of The Irish being disposessed through history but land is precious and there are no holds barred in holding on to it.Lives have been lost and will be again over a plot of land.

quality at great price
I've seen this film a couple of times and wanted a keepsake of it and I finally got it in a first class, well presented, and value for money in a quality DVD and then watched it again!

Well worth watching
Lovely to see the Irish scenery in this film. A must watch film, for anyone of Irish decent especially if they have never been to Ireland, and I never knew until recently that they used seaweed as a fertiliser.

Worth watching again.
I saw the film when it came out and to be quite honest didn't really understand it. Came back to it again with a little more knowledge about the history of Ireland and now it made alot of sense.
