Fabulous, funny sexy adventure of the infamous Moll Flanders
The best...and I mean the best...Moll Flanders movie ever done. Alex Kingston and Daniel Craig head an all star cast {including a delightful Dianna Rigg, elderly but still gorgeous} on a fabulous romp through 17th century England. Moll is an adventuress working her way up through the class system using her looks, her wits and marrying any number of times{once to her own brother} and somehow always prevails no matter what the challenge. The acting, the locations, the scenery, the costumes, hair, makeup and production values are top notch....and I love the fact that Kingston, although an attractive woman, is not Barbie doll gorgeous and seriously, authentically resembles women of the era. {Remember, back then just having a great figure, clear smooth healthy skin and all your teeth was enough ... The best...and I mean the best...Moll Flanders movie ever done. Alex Kingston and Daniel Craig head an all star cast {including a delightful Dianna Rigg, elderly but still gorgeous} on a fabulous romp through 17th century England. Moll is an adventuress working her way up through the class system using her looks, her wits and marrying any number of times{once to her own brother} and somehow always prevails no matter what the challenge. The acting, the locations, the scenery, the costumes, hair, makeup and production values are top notch....and I love the fact that Kingston, although an attractive woman, is not Barbie doll gorgeous and seriously, authentically resembles women of the era. {Remember, back then just having a great figure, clear smooth healthy skin and all your teeth was enough to win a beauty pageant}. The film is humorous, its sexy {there's a couple of explicit scenes, so shoo the kids out of the room} and pulls no punches exploring the tragic, seedy, cruel underbelly of England's lowest classes. It does take a few liberties with Defoes original book, but that shouldnt be much of a problem, its just a great productiomn.

Thrilled to have my own physical copy of this film masterpiece
This particular version with Alex Kingston is one of my top favorite movies, but I've been going to Youtube to watch a free copy. Someone uploaded a poor quality of it to that website. I decided not to count on it always being available over there, so I bought myself this gift. It's a beautiful DVD from outside and inside (of course). Only thing that's missing is the Masterpiece Theatre introduction that is available in the Youtube version. It gives a solid sense of the sophistication and seriousness of the subject matter, and gives important background: written by Daniel Defoe, a great journalist in his day, who had himself spent some time in the prison system and was particularly interested in the women criminals that were produced by the societal and cultural system. He was interested ... This particular version with Alex Kingston is one of my top favorite movies, but I've been going to Youtube to watch a free copy. He was interested in what led them to becoming such (which is a great mark of empathy and sharp intellect). This is a work of high quality and is recommended to all women, but those that have lived a sheltered life may find it too harsh. I showed this to one such friend (she had Autism and was very sheltered), and she was so upset at the end that she wept and wept. I felt horrible. So, in conclusion, this is very important subject matter, but sensitivity is needed when deciding whom to share it with.

2 very different movies
I seen Moll Flanders movie (Morgan Freeman) and thought would be nice to gave "expanded" version. This was (almost) different story, only few details were same as in the original movie. Also it was strange the main character once so often would look straight "at viewer" (camera) and make a comment, as if she would talk to someone directly. Oh well, all movies are different, but this one I personally did not like it all.I seen Moll Flanders movie (Morgan Freeman) and thought would be nice to gave "expanded" version. I give it two stars because the acting and production value were excellent. But unfortunately the filmmakers took a classic morality tale and turned it on its head. The central theme of this work was, go ahead and lie, cheat and steal. Be irresponsible, vain and selfish. If you do there will never be consequences and in the end, all your dreams will come true. The prisons and graveyards are full of such people.I give it two stars because the acting and production value were excellent. But unfortunately the filmmakers took a classic morality tale and turned it on its head. The central theme of this work was, go ahead and lie, cheat and steal. Be irresponsible, vain and selfish. If you do there will never be consequences and in the end, all your dreams will come true. The prisons and graveyards are full of such people.
