Gorgeous Technicolor musical numbers; no plot.
The introduction to this film states that the Ziegfeld Follies had no plot; it was a stage show with un-connected musical numbers and beautiful girls. That's exactly what you get here. It's a variety show with no storyline. The opening number is one of the most incredible I've ever seen, featuring a carousel with live white horses, dozens of dancing ladies in Technicolor pink, and Lucille Ball cracking a whip at women dressed like black leopards. Really! The film is worth seeing for this scene alone...but it goes downhill from there. The problem is that many of the acts are severely outdated. Today's viewers may have trouble relating to a skit about a man trying to get a pay-phone operator to connect him. There are no African-American performers except in Lena Horne's number, which does not include any white people, a sad reminder of segregation in 1946. A dance number supposedly set in Chinatown includes some Asians, but also Fred Astaire in unconvincing Chinese make-up. If you don't care about story or characters but would like to experience the Ziegfield Follies as they really were back in the day, this might appeal to you.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Peak MGM musical
Lush Technicolor extravaganza and a must for fans 1940's era MGM musical comedy. The dream dance sequences between Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer are stunning. Classic movie
This is a Beautiful Classic Movie. I now have all three of the Ziegfeld movies. Which I enjoy watching. I love the old movies. Just wish the 2 other ones were in color also. Even though the customs are so Beautiful in black and white.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu
