Fabulous Family Movie
The story is terrific. I love the idea that it shows in detail the training our service dogs go through. This is an amazing story of a troubled teen and a grief stricken service dog help each other heal. I was spell bound from the beginning to the end. Great for family viewing together to show our children, and explain to them, the value of every life.

Man's Best Friend is Loyal, too
The writers and producers of this film had an opportunity to depict valuable human virtues, rarely seen in our self-serving society. In this story, a normal teen-age boy encounters challenges that discourage many youths: parental rules, household chores, and the loss of his older brother in the Afghanistan combat. With the 'friendship' of his late brother's service dog, he learns to respect authority, and persevere toward the truth.

Not For Small Children
Since we are dog lovers we were anticipating this movie. However, it could have been so much better. The beginning is what I thought the tone of the movie would be. Too much bad, especially for younger children. And the story line becomes unbelievable. The father is too over the top, the police are not "good guys till it hits them in the face. The four main teen actors along with the mother are right on. And of course Max steals the show when he is in it. But again to gun runners are too bad for kids and this should have been a family movie. This dog is a hero from the start so why not let him be one through-out the movie? Glad we watched it but wish it had been better.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words
This movie is very exciting and at times sad. It is about a Marine (in the body of a beautiful Belgian Malinois) who loses his human during a firestorm. He is lost and unsure of what will happen next. He's brought to the family of his lost Marine and Max has an immediate connection with the teenage boy though is still unsure of the rest of the family. He and his new family go through many trials as they learn about each other and what it takes to be a real family! Without giving too much away, things work out but not before much trouble has to be handled by all concerned. Also watch the bonus features to better understand what kind of work training dogs for movies really is!

It fits perfect.
Great find. I love this type of movie. Training dogs for show or work is always a gift of love. I've never trained like the military has to but I have been blessed with my dogs earning show degrees in obedience and holding the title of Therapy Dog. I recently lost my last Doberman. He was by my side for over 11 yrs. I hope to find another Doberman to train to be my Service Dog. Thanks for such a great movie.

Great family movie that touches the heart!
I highly recommend this movie for all ages. A very entertertaining movie with an actual plot an excellent actors. It is also a great tribute to all the animal heroes that served in the military. A refreshing change from the empty drivel being churned out these days.

Great Family Movie
Heartwarming "underdog" saves the day movie. Lots of action where good guys best the bad guys. And of course, the dog rescued by the family, rescues the boy's character and his life. Beautiful scenery and bike trail rides. Rin-Tin-Tin meets ET.

Mediocre
As having owned GSDs all my life, I was looking forward to this movie. This is a good example of a miss in the movie world - a production that fails to bloom. Most characters are flat - the mother has corny grief, - the plot is FAR too boilerplate, dark and miserable to be enjoyable and then at the end you realize you have been had by another cheap stilted Hollywood production. The dogs - multiple dogs were used to portray Max - are mildly entertaining only. Just another Hollywood hack-job that missed the proverbial boat.

Max to the rescue
This is an excellent movie having a great cast of characters and especially the excellent trained German Shepherd dog . I purchased this DVD for my daughter

Dog lovers dream
This movie is the last movie I saw in the theater and have seen it many times since on HBO and now can watch it whenever I want.....it is addictive......just a great movie.
