Using either first or third person perspective, choose your preferred warrior from a set of six, which includes Red Shadow, Tatsumi, Black Lotus, Utsusemi, Kannuki, and Mikado. There are multiple playing modes to choose from: story, versus, slash, training, POV, and link. The serial link option allows you to connect two different PlayStation game consoles, which means your opponents can be your friends. Included is the option of eight different ancient swords and weapons, such as a Katana, Rapier, or a Long Sword. You initiate combat in a Japanese castle that affords you much space to fight opponents. There are multiple ending options; however, this game discourages fighting dishonorably, such as striking an opponent if they on the ground, which disqualifies you from certain ending choices.
