    The Shooting Party (UK/Can, 1985)

    This digitally remastered film (with generous extras) deserves a viewing, if not only for the exempliary acting of the late James Mason (his last film). Importantly, the wonderful rendering of Isabel Colgate's examination of the declination of the British upper classes - a period just before the First World War. This is truly a classic British film. One of the last of the period.

    Superb film.

    Bought this for friends who have never seen it but watched it ourselves first.Probably the third or fourth time of viewing! One of the best casts ever in a British film,superbly written and filmed.Adapting a great book can be difficult but this film does complete justice to its source. A wonderful commentary on the last days of a complacent,arrogant social class just before the First World War in the knowledge that huge social changes are about to occur.

    Excellent film of great British tradition

    It’s such an endearing film filled with pathos and depicting the end of aristocratic rule and the coming war which obviously affected the rich and poor within the coming time period. The acting is superb with a marvellous cast showing their true talents. Highly recommended for all interested in modern history

    An excellent and thought provoking drama.

    Having recently read the book and watched the film many years ago it was a delight to return to this engaging production. The film is very well cast and the story closely follows that in the book.
