Quite A Journey
I'm very nostalgic and Superman is as nostalgic as it gets. These classic toons are very entertaining with all the eye-opening animation and direction. Louis Lane gets into near-death predicaments and escapes by a hair, thanks to Superman (wink). The Fleischer's were ultra talented brothers and I am grateful to them for bringing the Man of Steel to the screen before anyone else and defining what he is all about. A video treasure worth every penny
This DVD set is a seminal event on several levels of animation. It was an influence on everything from the obvious (later Superman adaptations, even live action ones) to the not-too-surprising (the DC Animated Universe of the 1990's and early 00's) to Japanese anime. The animation holds up tremendously well, and once the action starts, it kicks in fiercely. While some entries are dated and certainly even cross the line into racism, these are mostly the Famous Studios episodes and not the brilliant full-blooded Fleischer masterpieces.
