Best Bear vault on the market
Of the 4 brands of bear vaults we have used so far this model exceeds all others in several aspects. The ratio of capacity (space inside) to weight is easily 30% more than the best competitor. We have not tested the different bear vaults by having them mauled by (consistently repetitious) bears. The opening is nearly full width so getting stuff into and out is easier by far than the smaller port-door type of bear vault. We have modified ours by painting the pressure places along the rim of the top to show clearly where to press to unlock the screw top. Also we painted where the locking post is on the collar of the transparent body. Although some of these are a bit difficult to unscrew, I would choose this over the need to have a flat implement (coin or key) to unscrew the fasteners on a bear vault of another type. The body being transparent does help in logistics of "What do I have packed here?" without opening and removing contents like the other brands. The bumps and ribs on the outer surface make tying this bear vault to a pack a lot more secure than other brands- typically bulgy-sided smooth barrels.. Also, the body not being black color, like some other brands, tends to keep the temperature of the contents lower on a day in the sun, so if you have chocolate in the vault there will be less of a tendency for it to become soup. They could improve on consistent ease of unscrewing the lid, and marking the pressure places to unlock the screw threads (As we had to do after-purchase). There may be lighter, stronger plastics possible (Kevlar, carbon fiber, - better in tension), but until some other manufacturer makes a major breakthrough, this is a compelling value.

A must have for alpine backpacking
Just came back from a 38 mile backpack North on Banff, Canada. Most of the time we were above treeline with no place to hang our food. Saw evidence of grizzly activity everywhere. Was a real comfort to have a bearvault.

Great product.
These are great bear canisters. Much lighter and much easier to open than others on the market. Plus, with the top being flat, you can use it as a seat.

Perfect size for 2 nights and 3 people
The bear canister looked huge when I first got it. It was nearly twice the size of the rental ones at the ranger station. I was concerned that it was too big but once I put 2 days worth of food for 3 people and packed it sideways in my backpack, it fit perfectly. It carried all of our "gourmet" food and fit in the pack better than I expected. As for opening the lid, use a knife to push the 2 buttons down as you go through the locking piece. It's too hard on your fingers otherwise but works brilliantly with a coin or knife. If I had purchased the smaller one, I would have regretted it. This one is ideal.

Great Product.
I like this clear one better than the ones you can't see through. You also don't need a coin or screwdriver to get into it.

Pretty good, a little pricey
Easy to open once you get the hang of it, fits my 65 Liter, comfy to sit on as well.
