    Great for spurring to action or at least thought and research.

    A compelling look at what is purported to be a possibility. Real technical data and practical methods for shielding and prevention are slim. Should an event occur or be allowed to occur it seems likely that marshal law would be implemented nearly immediately with pre-identified personnel and troops with pre-written plans that would likely be far more brutal than depictions in the book. The book provides a more realistic look at what supplies would likely be needed is a good insight. The value of good health and mental acuity is reaffirmed.

    A 'blinding glimpse of the obvious' that you'll never really believe until you absorb this.

    I couldn't stop listening. Not to sound dramatic, as I drove along listening to this book I looked around. And what I saw was literally seen through new eyes. Compelling...hardly does justice to the entirely new perspective one can get. It's like a 'blinding glimpse of the obvious' to reflect on life around us after reading this. I heartily endorse and suggest reading this book. I've already passed it on to a friend, and have two more who are anxiously awaiting it so they can read this themselves. I've got them primed.

    A Timely Wake Up Call

    Forstchen explores a wide range of consequences that our society would face if the power grid went down for a long time. It is difficult to imagine that the reader would not be able to recognize in Forstchen's narative, features of his or her own situation which some wise planning and/or action would alter sufficiently in order to significantly improve the chances of surviving should such a calamity strike. The threat of such an event's occurence is real. The high probability that most Americans are nearly completely unprepared for it is also real. One only needs to watch the news reports about the behavior of people who are in the path of such an event as a hurricane and their last minute panic buying and other, often inadequate, efforts to survive, to be convinced.     Great book to open your eyes on the damage a EMP would do to this country, and shows how fragile modern society really is and the ease that it would take to destroy it. Everyone should read this book and prepare for the worst and pray it never happens.
