Trevor (James Bolam) and his girlfriend Jill (Barbara Flynn) intend to stir things up by being elected to the town council. During their run, a strange mystery unfolds before them when a dreamlike figure sells Trevor, a jazz enthusiast, some records. A mistaken exchange of goods sends Trevor and Jill in search of the mysterious woman who sold them the records. Their search leads them to uncovering numerous political scandals and meeting up with several eccentric individuals. This wickedly funny mini series is full of quirky characters and situations and is armed with a spectacular wit. A jazz soundtrack paces this British series, adding more mystery to the lovers' quest for the truth.

Original and highly entertaining.
I watched this offbeat drama when it first came on our television screens. I loved it then and I have enjoyed it just as much this time. The actors are excellent and the characters they play are very engaging. I suppose it could be classed as a detective story but it is much more than that. Among television dramas this is unique,a one off. Gerry Mc Menemy.

a satire that doesn't rely on that modern weakness, swearing, for its laughs - how delightful, its actually funny!!!
