Reviews
"Instead of tap dancing around the hard parts, we're drilling into the bedrock. We hear less from Presley and more from Keough, who comes across as level headed, valiant and kind . . . Keough approaches the episode with respectful levity, the best tool available to members of a dysfunctional family . . . Presley still gets a word in here and there, and these passages show how determined she was to stand up to her demons." -- The New York Times "The book is of two minds: It's an unadorned, conversational memoir that's more matter of fact than gossipy, little interested in preserving what her father's biographer Peter Guralnick once called 'the dreary bondage of myth.' And it's a frank, almost unbearably heavy meditation on grief. . . . Stunningly candid . . . Both women write gracefully about the unbearable, immovable heaviness of grief. Keough's portrait of her mother in her final months is especially indelible. 'I had mistakenly thought she was so strong-minded that nothing could ever truly hobble her,' she writes. 'But of course it could. Enough pain can hobble anyone.'" -- The Washington Post

Synopsis
#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER - NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - OPRAH'S BOOK CLUB PICK - Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley tells her whole story for the first time in this raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough. A PEOPLE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them. About getting dragged screaming out of the bathroom as she ran toward his body on the floor. About living in Los Angeles with her mother, getting sent to school after school, always kicked out, always in trouble. About her singular, lifelong relationship with Danny Keough, about being married to Michael Jackson, what they had in common. About motherhood. About deep addiction. About ever-present grief. Riley knew she had to fulfill her mother's wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world. To make her mother known. This extraordinary book is written in both Lisa Marie's and Riley's voices, a mother and daughter communicating--from this world to the one beyond--as they try to heal each other. Profoundly moving and deeply revealing, From Here to the Great Unknown is a book like no other--the last words of the only child of an American icon., #1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER * NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * OPRAH'S BOOK CLUB PICK * Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley tells her whole story for the first time in this raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough. Excellent seller! The booklet was handsomely and safely packed, exactly as described and in remarkable condition for a 50-some year old ‘disposable’ book, great value for my limited funds and quickly shipped Altho it took a little longer to get to me due to all the problems at various USPS distribution hubs, but that’s not the fault of the seller. Great job, very satisfied with the transaction, I would gladly buy from again!

  • Great read, can't put it down until you finish!

I loved this book! I got it in reasonable time, and I really could not put it down. I passed it to my daughter to read, It will journey throughout our family and friends who want to read it. It was really funny in parts especially the Aunt, really sad in most parts, but gives us the feeling we were there with Lisa and her family. I know the feeling you have when you lose someone you dearly love and it doesn't feel very good, It took a year for me to get myself together and realize I have family that loves me and I need to be here with them. I am 72 years old and have MAYBE 20 years left of my life if I am lucky, so I recommend everyone should have this book in their bookcase.

  • A good read

I enjoyed this book and learned more about the life and history of Lisa Marie and the love her daughter had for her mother and family

  • Story is Interesting

I like the book except there is too many F words. It seems like there is some on a lot of the pages , wouldn't have to be so many. I guess that is the way she talked but , it seems like too much of it . The story is interesting though. I wouldn't buy a book by her again. You can tell a story without all that language.

  • Didn't fit the contents

Wild child on the loose! Lisa needed a lot of TLC and structure for her life to be so vulgar mouthed and out of hand. Surrounded by too many yes men afraid to discipline her for fear of Elvis backlash. Should have been a nanny present during the day..
