Product Information
Some describe this venture as the beginning of HBOs golden era. This show is like the male version of SEX AND THE CITY, depicting the life and times of a 30-something literary type who whittles away the hours masterminding ways to hook up with the opposite sex. Both shows also employ the use of ample nudity and simulated sex, though DREAM ON certainly was first to attempt it. Martin Tupper (Brian Benben) is a divorced book publisher who tries as best he can to raise a teenage son (Chris Demetral) and remain friends with his psychotherapist ex-wife Judith (Wendie Malick). Though he frequently is shown dating and seducing many a woman, he is not-so secretly still in love with Judith. This passion burns all the more brightly when she marries a brilliant scientific genius that annoyingly embodies the idea of Renaissance Man. This story is punctuated by Martin's subconscious, which often takes the form of interjected old movie clips (similar to the quirky daydreams that gave Ally McBeal such a charmingly complex personality). The dated sound bytes from the films juxtaposed with modern scenarios, draws some serious giggles. Many of these episodes were directed and produced by John Landis, who offers an introduction to the series in this package.
