A CRACKING START!
Isn't it fantastic when you read a great book and you discover the author has written more of the same? So as I discovered "Old man's war" is part one of a trilogy of books, although the second book leaves the characters of the first and third books to concentrate on another, new character. I thought the concept of the first book was great, the main, male character was very likeable, the journey to war was interesting and funny. War is not. Well, it's interesting in that John has found new and exiting ways to kill new and exiting aliens but there is also a lot of humour in the book which you don't normally find in hard science fiction books. Plus the re-emergence of , well, I certainly didn't expect her but there she was, and this was also a very clever concept. A very well written science fiction book, full of great characters, concepts and ideas and after reading it, I went straight into the second book and then the third; I wasn't disappointed!
