Book of the year so far
Innovative in style, gripping, heartening and heart rending in content, this is the best book I have read this year. The simple seeming narrative deals, without pretension with large themes- what it means to be human, how good and evil are necessarily entwined, the importance of truth, our relationship to nature and history, the power of art etc. At the same time it is a real page turner.
