Kieves, author of This Time I Dance! Creating the Work You Love (How One Harvard Lawyer Left It All to Have It All!), "The long-term destructive consequences that narcissistic parents have for their children are well known. Keith Campbell, Ph.D., author of When You Love a Man Who Loves Himself, "Narcissistic mothers are always there when they need you. They expect to be the center of attention, and they can be cruel if they don't get what they want. Learning how to set boundaries with narcissistic mothers is a complex challenge. SynopsisFrom experienced family therapist Dr. Karyl McBride, Will I Ever Be Good Enough? is an essential guide to recovery for women with selfish, emotionally abusive, and toxic mothers--designed to help daughters reclaim their lives. The first book for daughters who have suffered the abuse of narcissistic, self-involved mothers, Will I Ever Be Good Enough? provides the expert assistance you need in order to overcome this debilitating history and reclaim your life. Drawing on more than two decades of experience as a therapist specializing in women's health and hundreds of interviews with suffering daughters, Dr. Karyl McBride helps you recognize the widespread effects of this emotional abuse and create an individualized program for self-protection, resolution, and complete recovery. Narcissistic mothers teach their daughters that love is not unconditional, that it is given only when they behave in accordance with maternal expectations and whims. As adults, these daughters have difficulty overcoming feelings of inadequacy, disappointment, emotional emptiness, and sadness. They may also have a fear of abandonment that leads them to form unhealthy romantic relationships, as well as a tendency to perfectionism and unrelenting self-criticism or to self-sabotage and frustration. Dr. McBride's step-by-step program will enable you to: (1) Recognize your own experience with maternal narcissism and its effects on all aspects of your life (2) Discover how you have internalized verbal and nonverbal messages from your mother and how these have translated into overachievement or self-sabotage (3) Construct a personalized program to take control of your life and enhance your sense of self, establishing healthy boundaries with your mother and breaking the legacy of abuse Warm and sympathetic, Dr. McBride brings a profound level of authority to Will I Ever Be Good Enough? that encourages and inspires you as it aids your recovery., The first book for daughters who have suffered the abuse of selfish, self-involved mothers, Will I Ever Be Good Enough? provides the expert assistance you need in order to overcome this debilitating history and reclaim your life. • Incredibly Comprehensive and Healing

It's as if the author lived in my house with my Narcissistic mother as I was growing up. The traits of a Narcissist were explained well. I gained a thorough understanding of the dysfunctional behavior of a Narcissist and finally came to realize that I am not the complete failure she made me believe I am. It gave me the ability to put a stop to the abusive behavior. I am now able to recognize when I am being manipulated and able to refuse to play into the dysfunctional dynamic any longer. I wish this book had been available to me 50 years ago. The choices I made through the years and the outcome of those choices would have been so much better. But, I am glad it isn't too late for me. I am also able to recognize Narcissistic behavior in others and not get sucked into another dysfunctional relationship. The examples used by the author are plentiful. It is easy to read and not textbook in nature. The healing process is explained well and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book and have shared it with others who agree it was beneficial.

  • Mind blowing

As the daughter of a narcissistic mother, I have struggled all of my life with self esteem, confidence, relationships, and even my own abilities as a parent. This book helped me realize what I really went through as a child and the damaging effects that had been left. This book is amazingly written and the author speaks from personal experience making it that much easier for her to relate to you. I would recommend this book to anyone who grew up with a mother like this. It will help you understand yourself better and help you understand your mother better as well.

  • Best self help book, that I have ever read. Absolutely a must read if you have mommy issues. You need a journal.

I was raised by a mother how had kids to have someone to love her. This book has been amazing to me. I have recommended to my daughter in law that I see battling alot of the issue that I have read about in the book. I am in the healing stages of the book. Not missing a page. I have found so many things that would have helped when my mom was alive. My daughter in law has the opportunity to achieve this if she will just stick with it. She has a problem with finishing tasks. So, I purchased this book for her. And she has seen a difference in me. I have talked about the journey. So I pray that she will read it. Thank you

  • Excellent Information

The author is very thorough with the information she provides. So thorough that reading, for me, was a bit painful as I am a child of a narcissistic mother. I never knew what to call my growing up situation but this book covers and explains perfectly!

  • Compassionate analysis

This book answers a lot of questions I've had for a long time. I would never have guessed narcissism was the root cause, but now that I have a deeper understanding of it from reading this book, it makes so much sense. Something just felt wrong and now I know why.

  • I did not pay attention to the meaning behind that title.. No pictures can describe the feelings.

SOME people are narssistic but not necessarily the fault of their Mothers.. Mothers already feel guilty enough for raising a self centered child.. Without the Child finding someone to blame it on besides herself.. No I do not recommend it, for whatever reason the Mother will feel the Guilt and the Blame, whether she is to blame or not..
