Synopsis
The Eagles came together in Los Angeles in 1972, a time when everyone was hungry for a different kind of music. With hits like Lyin' Eyes and Peaceful Easy Feeling the Eagles created some of the most popular music of the time - just as they were setting new standards for decadence, egomania, drug use and intra band strife. Drawing on interviews with people including band members, their friends, ex-wives and ex-lovers, handlers, roadies and hangers-on, Marc Eliot reveals what life was really like inside this hugely popular but deeply troubled group. The book follows The Eagles from their early, idealistic days as Linda Ronstadt's backup band to their self immolation amid multi-million dollar law suits, Lear jet courtships and debilitating cocaine habits - with a coda on their Hell Freezes Over tour, the comeback that made them the top grossing live act of 1995 and 1996. This is the story about a band that embodied the excesses of the 1970s and provided, in Hotel California, a song for the decade's soundtrack.

    Book arrived in excellent condition, looked new. It was not the edition pictured in the listing. Since I was buying it to complete a collection, I was looking for the same edition to match the others in the series. Seller promptly responded & refunded, so no complaint about the seller. This is not the first seller I've bought from that used a stock photo that didn't match the edition of the listing. I don't mind a stock photo, but wish booksellers would use the stock photo that matches.

    Accurate history of The Eagles, my favorite classic rock band - Still going strong!!!!!

    Detailed bio on all members including original band Leadon & Souther. Didn't realize the large portion of their major hits were written collectively by Frey & Henley. Learned that at an early age, Frey was known as that kid from Detroit that can play an acoustic guitar and sing harmony. He would help record a song for anyone for $25 a pop. This is just some highlights from the 1st 3rd of the book. I'm still reading and loving every page of it. If you like The Eagles and enjoy trivia, BUY THIS BOOK. Saw them in concert in Columbus, Ohio in March '09. The best concert I have ever seen and I have seen concerts of a lot of the good bands and soloists.
