Product Information

This lush and beautifully photographed production of Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel contains more star power than any of its predecessors or successors in the 20th century. The setting is Concord, Massachusetts, during the Civil War, and Marmee Marach (Mary Astor) is attempting to raise her four teenage daughters in a time of deprivation and with her husband away fighting the war. June Allyson (THE GLENN MILLER STORY, THE STRATTON STORY) stars as Jo, the tomboy bookworm. Margaret O'Brien plays the selfless and tragic Beth. Elizabeth Taylor, in a perfect casting choice, plays the artistic Amy, and beautiful Janet Leigh (TOUCH OF EVIL, PSYCHO) takes on the role of responsible Meg. All of these stars turn in fine performances under the experienced coaching of director Mervyn LeRoy (MADAME CURIE, WATERLOO BRIDGE).

Nostalgic version
I have seen several versions of the movie, “Little Women”; and this is one of my favorites. The video quality and sound are excellent. I love the characters and the actors portraying them are very well cast. Very entertaining. I would recommend.

Very enjoyable movie. I'm glad to own this classic DVD.
Though the film strayed a bit much from Miss Alcott's novel, I enjoyed watching it again after so many years. Audio and video quality excellent. No complaints.

Extremely happy!!
I was so excited to find this version of Little Women. It has been a hard to find dvd. I so enjoyed getting to sit back and relax. Thanks for the quality video and prompt shipping.

Great movie.
Great movie. It was made in 1949 and is far better than more recent remakes. The actresses are some of the great ones.

Little Women make mom happy!
This version of f Little Women has always been my 94 year old mom’s favorite movie of all time. So...I bought it for her for Mother’s Day gift. She was elated!!

a classic forever
Great movie. Wonderful story. Wonderful actors. Nice to have it. Don't have cable anymore too expensive. Love watching when I want with out taking a second mortgage which I can't. Thank you for bringing this joy back to me!!!!

Little Women
I've seen most of the Little Women films that have come out. This is my favorite version. Elizabeth Montgomery, especially, does a terrific job being "in character", as does Mary Astor, June Allison, and Elizabeth Taylor. I am not pleased with the versions that try to be "politically correct"--they do not fit the time period in which the novel was written--completely destroys the effect!

I LOVE THIS CLASSIC VERSION OF THE STORY. THE DVD ITSELF IS A FINE QUALITY PRODUCT, BOTH SOUND AND PICTURE.

I haven't had the chance to watch it yet, but I'm familiar with the actors and I'm pretty sure they do a great job with this story.
