Set over Christmas of 1183, this acclaimed adaptation of James Goldman's play concerns Henry II's effort to choose a worthy successor. Powerful Henry II (Peter O'Toole) favours his youngest son John (Nigel Terry), while his strong-willed wife Eleanor (Katherine Hepburn) feels the honor should be bestowed upon eldest son Richard the Lionhearted (Anthony Hopkins, in his screen debut). only 5 starts out of 5 because I cant go higher
Been a fan of this film for ages so pleased to have got a copy I can watch on new big TV screen. the film itself could have been written by Shakespeare due to the way it captures the drama but it is the interaction of the actors that makes it so watchable. There just are not the actors around today that could make a film resonate this way now. 5 out of 5 rating

Good value for history buffs.
A rather long film to watch considering it's all about a family arguments and disagreement. A well meaning and informative stab of history but went on a little longer than I expected.

Unconvincing period portrayal and mediocre acting
Poor acting and unconvincing period feel made a complex semi psychological battle difficult to engage with.
