Synopsis
Although it is often assumed that British writing on architectural theory really started in the 18th century, there is in fact a large corpus of writing on architecture pre-dating the introduction of Palladianism by Lord Burlington. Some of it, such as the English editions of Serlio and Palladio, belongs to the Vitruvian tradition. But many texts elude such easy classification, such as the prolonged (but hardly studied) discussions on church architecture, which are both in form and content very different from the way that theme was handled in Italian Renaissance treatises., Although it is often assumed that British writing on architectural theory really started in the eighteenth century, there is in fact a large corpus of writing on architecture pre-dating the introduction of Palladianism by Lord Burlington. This first collection of writing on architecture from 1540 to 1750 includes many excerpts never published before. The authors, who include well-known writers such as Inigo Jones, Roger Pratt, John Evelyn, or Sir John Vanbrugh, but also some writers who are not usually associated with architectural theory, such as John Donne or Walter Montague, discuss the nature of architecture, the practicalities of building, the sense of the past, religious architecture, and classicism. It offers a large selection of fragments, some of them never published before. They discuss the nature of architecture, the practicalities of building, the sense of the past, religious architecture, and classicism. All fragments are introduced and annotated to facilitate use both by architectural historians and in the class-room. Ordered Blu-rays and couldn’t be happier. All arrived in perfect condition—exactly as described, securely packaged, and shipped quickly. Discs and cases looked brand new, like they'd barely been touched. Great seller, great value, and zero issues from start to finish. Would definitely buy from again. Highly recommended!

Outstanding customer service. Exceeded expectations. Unfortunately, package didn't arrive by expected date through no fault of the seller. It was presumably misplaced by the carrier during shipment. Seller proactively issued a full refund and said to "enjoy" the DVD if it is eventually delivered. Not expected, and certainly not necessary, given it wasn't their fault. A stellar vendor who goes the extra mile to ensure their customers are satisfied. Highly recommended!!

The book cover didn't match the listing photo, which is a pet peeve of mine, and the book was just shipped in a bag with no additional protection, but the book was in the stated condition, not covered in inventory stickers (like some sellers do), and shipping was fast. Plus the book cover was actually better than the listing photo. Overall I'm happy, but I probably wouldn't purchase from this seller again just because I like to know what my book cover is going to look like.
