Synopsis
The Hungry Tide is a very contemporary story of adventure and unlikely love, identity, and history, set in one of the most fascinating regions on the earth. Off the easternmost coast of India, in the Bay of Bengal, lies the immense labyrinth of tiny islands known as the Sundarbans. For settlers here, life is extremely precarious. Attacks by deadly tigers are common. Unrest and eviction are constant threats. Without warning, at any time, tidal floods rise and surge over the land, leaving devastation in their wake. In this place of vengeful beauty, the lives of three people from different worlds collide. Piya Roy is a young marine biologist, of Indian descent but stubbornly American, in search of a rare, endangered river dolphin. Her journey begins with a disaster, when she is thrown from a boat into crocodile-infested waters. Rescue comes in the form of a young, illiterate fisherman, Fokir. Although they have no language between them, Piya and Fokir are powerfully drawn to each other, sharing an uncanny instinct for the ways of the sea. Piya engages Fokir to help with her research and finds a translator in Kanai Dutt, a businessman from Delhi whose idealistic aunt and uncle are longtime settlers in the Sundarbans. As the three of them launch into the elaborate backwaters, they are drawn unawares into the hidden undercurrents of this isolated world, where political turmoil exacts a personal toll that is every bit as powerful as the ravaging tide. Already an international success, The Hungry Tide is a prophetic novel of remarkable insight, beauty, and humanity., A contemporary story of adventure and romance, identity and history brings two outsiders deep into the tiny islands known as the Sundarbans off the coast of India where life is ruled by the unforgiving tides and the constant threat of attack by Bengal tigers., The Hungry Tide is a very contemporary story of adventure and unlikely love, identity and history, set in one of the most fascinating regions on the earth. - r***t (99)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufOrdered Blu-rays and couldn’t be happier. All arrived in perfect condition—exactly as described, securely packaged, and shipped quickly. Discs and cases looked brand new, like they'd barely been touched. Great seller, great value, and zero issues from start to finish. Would definitely buy from again. Highly recommended!
- a***v (721)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufOutstanding customer service. Exceeded expectations. Unfortunately, package didn't arrive by expected date through no fault of the seller. It was presumably misplaced by the carrier during shipment. Seller proactively issued a full refund and said to "enjoy" the DVD if it is eventually delivered. Not expected, and certainly not necessary, given it wasn't their fault. A stellar vendor who goes the extra mile to ensure their customers are satisfied. Highly recommended!!Pink Floyd - Pulse (Nr. 135625367718)
- l***s (76)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufThe book cover didn't match the listing photo, which is a pet peeve of mine, and the book was just shipped in a bag with no additional protection, but the book was in the stated condition, not covered in inventory stickers (like some sellers do), and shipping was fast. Plus the book cover was actually better than the listing photo. Overall I'm happy, but I probably wouldn't purchase from this seller again just because I like to know what my book cover is going to look like.
