Product Information

John Cameron Mitchell is the creator of the off-Broadway hit HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, which he and composer-lyricist Stephen Trask have transformed into a funny, dramatic, and curiously poignant self-described "post-punk neo-glam musical" film, with extra songs and a new instrumental score. Hedwig (played by Mitchell) was born as Hansel in East Berlin. In his twenties, Hansel agrees to undergo a sex change in order to marry a U.S. soldier (Maurice Dean Wint) and escape to America. Unfortunately, the procedure fails, and Hedwig is left with nothing but a sexless "angry inch" between her legs. After being abandoned in a Kansas trailer park by her husband, Hedwig decides to make the most of her situation: She develops a taste for outrageous wigs and costumes, forms a band, and becomes a singer. Hedwig soon meets and falls in love with 17-year-old Tommy (Michael Pitt), who also harbors rock star aspirations, and makes him her musical protégé. But Tommy is the one who ends up stealing the superstardom that Hedwig worked for, after stealing Hedwig's songs and claiming them as his own. In order to expose him as a fraud, she embarks on a tour of strip mall restaurants, telling her story to the audience while trailing Tommy on his own tour across America.

    Very Good Veiw

    I saw this at the theater the first week it was out. Excellent movie and soundtrack. Very entertaining. The band Type O Negative even diid a cover of the title track.

    Great movie

    This movie is very entertainjng! It is funny and engaging. The songs all fit perfectly. They are not just songs for the sake of being a musical. The songs add to the story. The costumes are great as well.

    One of our all-time favs

    My husband & I saw the Broadway musical on tour last year, then immediately went home to watch the film. Both are incredible, heartbreaking story, with lots of comedic elements, and wonderful sing-a-long songs.

    must see

    This movie not only brings up memories of watching with my grama but just its a movie that everyone must see. You will go threw emotions you never knew you had and will end up with respect for people who have had to endure such obstacles in their life. At 15 when i first seen it and this is and will always be a must see that i tell my friends about. Music is great

    Beware

    This movie is unwatchable... It's so bad I am still in therapy after watching this.. And I am as gay as you can get. And I love musical s .. But this was so bad it made "xanadu" look like" gone with the wind" Ahhhh...sooooo....bad! I can't even give it away...I don't want to hurt anyone else...
