  • Excellent read, but pricey.

The Thing...the film was met with mediocre enthusiasm when it came out but, has since become one of the iconic SCI-FI films ever, the special effects still stand up today. So, it was with interest that I wanted to read the book by Alan Dean Foster-the author of many own works and adaptations from films-these are taken from early scripts or near full filmed scripts, The Thing is one of these. The book is true to the film in around 80% of the film version, there are some differences but these still work around the visual version. As a stand alone book it works brilliantly and even, if like me, you have watched the film numerous times you can still visualise the characters and settings into the read. One downside is the price-this may have something to do with the fact that the film wasn't well received to begin with so no reprints have been done. Is it worth the money? Yes and no, if you really want to read the story version then try and get it at a good price, £20 or less. Anymore than that I don't think it is worth it. Overall, a good read that stays rather faithful to the film version, just do not pay over the odds for a copy.
