With a striking six cores, the Intel i7 3960X delivers clock speeds of up to 3.9 GHz straight out of the box. It also boasts an Intel Smart Cache of 15 MB, and, utilizing hyperthreading technology, this six-core processor runs twelve simultaneous threads, distributing the computer's processes evenly between them so as to maximize efficiency and minimize power consumption. The Intel i7 processor allows for up to 64 GB of memory (though this is dependent on the type of memory used), and accepts DDR3-1066/1333/1600 memory standards in four memory channels. What the Intel i7 processor lacks in integrated graphics specialty it easily makes up for in its advanced processing technologies: The i7 3960X uses Intel Turbo Boost technology, in addition to hyperthreading, Virtualization technology VT-x (and VT-d only on the C2 stepping). This six-core processor also uses the Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, intelligently altering the power consumption of the processor based on the broad spectrum of needs faced by mobile systems. It alternates the Intel i7 processor between high- and low-level energy consumption while maintaining a fluid and crisp user experience.
