This book opens with an introductory primer followed by basic concepts and proofs before moving on to congruent triangles, lines in a plane, parallel lines, and related figures. Polygons, similar polygons, the Pythagorean Theorem, circles, area, and surface and area volume are later addressed. After that, the text moves on to more complex geometric concepts such as coordinate geometry, locus, and inequalities. This new edition of the book contains 784 pages and is geared toward students 14 years of age and older. “McDougal Littell Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge” is a good fit for the homeschool classroom as well as the traditional classroom setting. It is suitable for the teacher as well as the student who wants to master math. The content is very thorough and offers a healthy challenge. The first chapter of “McDougal Littell Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge” covers the introduction. You will then learn all about the measurement of segments and angles, collinearity, betweenness, and assumptions. Beginning proofs, division of segments and angles, paragraph proofs, deductive structure, statements of logic, and probability are also covered. Chapters 2 and 3 go over perpendicularity, complementary and supplementary angles, addition and subtraction properties, and vertical angles. Congruent triangles, overlapping triangles, angle-side theorems, and the HL postulate are also explained in this title.Chapters 4 through 11 of this McDougal Littell text begins with lines in the plane. Next, it covers parallel lines and related figures, lines and planes in space, polygons and the Pythagorean theorem, and circles. You will gain a better understanding of area, congruent chords, arcs, secants and tangents, and angles. You will also learn how to calculate the area of a trapezoid, parallelograms, triangles, kites, and many other similar figures. Hero's and Brahmagupta's formulas and ratios of areas will be discussed and explained as well.In Chapters 12 through 16 of the new edition of “McDougal Littell Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge,” surface area and volume, locus and constructions, and inequalities are all addressed. Enrichment topics such as the point-line distance formula, Stewart's theorem, Ptolemy's theorem, mass points, and inradius and circumradius formulas are taught. Coordinate geometry is also touched on.
