Great Movie!
Great actors - Good storyline! If you like Steve McQueen you will love this movie. Candice Bergen also did an awesome job! A love story without all the sex. The S S San Pablo or Sand Pebbles was a gunboat. The story was set in 1926 China which was torn by the revolution. There is conflict aboard the boat and fighting as they go to China Light to rescue the missionaries.

Great Film to see!!!!
Awesome Movie With Steve McQueen also I think is his best performance in a film which was the only time he was nominated for an Oscar. It is about US Navy Gun Boat that patrols the waters of China and the situations they have to deal with during their stay there. This movie I think still holds up till today. Worth a view

A Realistic Story of Real People Caught Up in a Brutal Conflict
An excellent human story of people caught up in a developing political/military conflict. Offers a good combination of human relationship sub-plots and action. The characters are superbly believable thanks to the great story line being portrayed by top of the line actors (both males & females). A truly excellent story that is based on a time and place in history that's been largely ignored. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates a good story with realistic action as well as characters you can actually identify with and care about.

Blu Ray version is superior to standard dvd.
Blu Ray video is much better than standard dvd. The color saturation and sharpness is very noticeable compared to standard dvd. Music soundtrack also has some additional depth. Well worth the purchase if you like this film.

Untouched part of History
Great look at the politics between China and Great Powers in the 1920s. Very edgy movie for it's time.
