First Hand Account of the Soviet Terror
The Gulag Archipelago is one of the primary documents that helped to bring down the Soviet Union. Solzhenitsyn became an enemy of the state for his open literary career and was sent to the Siberian Gulag but lived to tell about it. His approx. 2500 pages was first confiscated by Soviet authorities but he had already consigned it to memory and it was fortunately issued in three or four complete unabridged volumes as The Gulag Archipelago in 1974.
