Synopsis
In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of "Manifest Destiny," this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness. In Blood and Thunder, Hampton Sides gives us a magnificent history of the American conquest of the West. At the center of this sweeping tale is Kit Carson, the trapper, scout, and soldier whose adventures made him a legend.     A Powerful Read If You Enjoy Western American History

    I have wanted to know more about Christopher “Kit” Carson for a long time. This well researched and authored book brings the reader so many factual events with vivid context you just don’t want to put it down. Kit Carson played a major role in the western expansion of the United States. I recommend this book to all who seek knowledge of American History.

    Best account of history that you will enjoy

    It's the story of the opening of the west based largely on the life of Kit Carson. Beautifully written account. History that is highly entertaining and informative. One of the best book I have encountered in recent years.

    The Europeans are coming.

    Great book on Kit Carson and the early exploration of the West with trade and reaction of the American Indians to the migration of settlers into their land.

    Great History Lesson

    Great writing on the history of the West starring Kit Carson! You will learn a lot and be entertained at the same time. I highly recommend this book and all of Hampton Sides works.
