Earth Abides
I read this book for the first time over 40 years ago, and have re-read it 3 or 4 times since. The story is compelling. It draws you in and captivates your attention. Probably one of the first dystopian novels ever written...but each time I have read the book, I have gleaned something new that I had missed the previous readings. I love the prose, the style and clearly the possibility...no probability that this is a harbinger f what may come to our lives...sooner than later. I purchased the audio version this time and let the story be read to me this time. Admittedly, I would have preferred a higher bit rate for a richer sound, but the reader drew me into the story again...each chapter was richer than the previous one...and still, there was more to glean. I caution you... this is an "E" ticket ride ( younger readers, ask your parents for that reference). Read at your own peril, but I guarantee, you will not be disappointed. Many is the hour I arrived home and sat in the car to finish the chapter. The highs, the low's the fragility of life. Earth Abides grabs your attention from the very beginning and I did not
Earth Abides is one of the best written sci-fi novels I have ever read. It is very thought-provoking concerning the meaning of man’s existence on this planet and how the sudden removal of civilization, with only a few widely-scattered survivors, cause a reassessment of the value of the high-tech, advanced knowledge that man had accumulated over tens of thousands of years. Earth Abides
One of the most realistic and well written Sci-Fi Dooms day novels ever made. Beware there are no zombies or evil aliens here. Only the story of a man that was lucky enough to avoid a world wide plague and his small group of survivors. With modern technology slowly breaking down, electricity, gasoline and canned food become only memories to these people. Now they and their children must relearn how to survive without these luxuries and devise the tools needed to continue the human race.
