Fourth studio album by the American rock band. The album and its studio follow-up, 'American Beauty', were recorded back-to-back using a similar style, eschewing the psychedelic experimentation of previous albums in favour of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter's Americana-styled songcraft. This 3CD set includes the original album with a remastered sound, plus an unreleased concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir's Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer, David Glasser.

Reviews"Inspired by the first two Band albums and the harmonies of Crosby Stills & Nash....Homespun folk and frontier songs played and sung in a loose, lived-in manner and sung as an old tie-dye T-shirt.", "...an excellent album....'Uncle John's Band', which opens the album, is, without question, the best recorded track done by this band...", 5 Stars (out of 5) - "...a modest, even penitent look back, not for nostalgic reassurance but for wisdom and perspective....maps the crises of the present onto the past and offers solace only in the ability of human virtues...to survive the most harrowing chaos."
