Product Information
Ross (Jason Schwartzman) is an addict badly in need of some speed. A visit to his dealer, Spider Mike's (John Leguizamo)--where fellow "tweakers" Nikki (Brittany Murphy)--a stripper, Frisbee (Patrick Fugit)--a metalhead, and Cookie (Mena Suvari)--Mike's girlfriend--turns into an odyssey, though, when Mike can't find his stash. Nikki tells Ross that her boyfriend, crazed cowboy The Cook (Mickey Rourke), can supply whatever he needs. The two of them visit The Cook at his motel lab, and Ross quickly gets his fix. Ross, however, is put into service as The Cook's errand boy and chauffeur, with only brief periods of freedom to check up on the stripper girlfriend he left tied to his bed back at his apartment. Ross' three days without sleep reaches a feverish head when it becomes evident that two cops (Peter Stormare and Alexis Arquette) have raided Spider Mike's pad in search of The Cook. This relentlessly crude and graphic feature from Swedish music video director Jonas Ackerlund is not for the faint-of-heart. Lightening-fast edits, sexually explicit animation, Farrelly-Brothers-level rudeness, and a pervasive sense of nihilism swirl together to create a morally empty Los Angeles of seedy abodes and cinder-block strip malls inhabited by corrupt cops and thrill-seeking lawbreakers. Great movie, mediocre medium.
The only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is my eyes and brain has been so accustomed to full hd and 4k that when i watch a dvd it burns my soul! Well that was a bit dramatic, but i'm not overly impressed with the picture quality. I've seen plenty of dvd's with less grainy picture but for all i know that could be the filmmakers fault, if he(Jonas Åkerlund) used some special filter or thingamajig? It's fully watchable, i'm just not 100% happy with the picture quality is all. I hope this will get a 4k-restore and reissued. It is a classic "drug-movie", aka a movie where the plot is about a group of drug users. In this case the "wonderful" creation that is methamphetamines. It's a quirky movie and it has some really odd characters in it, but that is to be expected from this type of movie and especially from director Åkerlund who's most known for making music videos. At times the movie itself feels like a music video with it's abrubt cuts and creative camerawork. The one thing that makes this movie shine from other so called drug movies is Brittany Murphy(r.i.p). This and her part in the movie 8 Mile is by far her best work. Recommended(if there are any left).Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

Great movie, terrible commentary!
Very original film with very engaging story, characters, camera, and editing techniques. I'm giving this 4 stars, mainly due to the least insightful and most boring, unenthusiastic director's commentary I've ever seen in my life. How on earth does a director make such a wild and funny film, but have little to nothing to say during the commentary? Overall, a great film.
