Very sturdy
I was skeptical at first as the saw didn't cut as it should, but then I realised that the coating also covered the teeth. After cutting a few branches the saw came alive! It's sharp teeth really making light work of any branch I threw at it. The Laplander 396 is an amazing saw; it cuts on the pull stroke making it easy to remove branches upto 75mm (3 inch) no doubt it could cut larger but that is what bow saws are made for...if you are trimming back branches of any hardwood you'll not be disappointed I assure you. Just bare in mind that the few couple of cuts will seem a little sluggish until the coating wears off the teeth, and then get ready for action! Have only used this item a few times but works great in comparison to other makes, it is good solid product and makes easy work of green and seasoned branches up to 4 inch diameter.it is compact and well made with little to no lateral blade movement when open and is easy to carry.

Having looked at the cheaper, and more expensive options, I chose the Laplander based on a number of things. Its compact, the locking mechanism is out of the way but easily operated by a single gloved hand. It cuts on both strokes and this is useful when cutting in awkward positions. I have a Silky and as they only cut on the pull stroke it limits its flexibility. I use my saw for bushcraft so the coating gets abuse. This is my second as my first one has been adopted by my missus and her one still has 95% of the coating after 3 years hard use. If need be the teeth can be sharpened, though I never had to and the teeth have always been sharp. The locking mechanism locks the blade in both open and close positions, something the Silky doesn't do as only locks in the open position. The Silky ... I bought this to replace one that I've had for three years, which I lost. The saw is an excellent bit of kit, well made and highly durable. Easy to carry, and highly effective, Ive used it in the garden, for odd jobs, and to build shelters whilst out and about. My first one became such an essential part of my outdoors carry, that I ordered a new one the instant I realised mine was missing. In regular and frequent use, never lost its cutting ability, comfortable but secure in the hand in use, and easy to carry in a cargo pocket or small pack without sacrificing space. The last Saw
I've always wanted one of these, but being a cheapskate, I previously bought cheaper alternatives. They do the same thing, right? Yes they do. But not as well. The coated blade means it doesn't get gripped by the product and this makes the job effortless. But they all fold up? Yes but the Laplander is the thinest one I've had when folded and this aids packability. A great saw and I recommend it.
