Not that it's 100% necessary, but definitely worth the price for both the convenience of play and the aesthetics of the game layout when using it--and it's great for the end of play when checking that all the cards are still present and nothing got lost or left out! Just a great idea and I would definitely recommend it--wish it just came with the game in the first place! Great design idea!
