This is an ecumenical bible, but the translation is not so watered-down or politically corrected as to lose its meaning. It contains the Torah, and the books of the Nevi'im and Ketuvim. With the New Testament and "Apocrypha" (Deuterocanon), it also contains the books that Christians both Catholic and Protestant use. With the exception of the Prayer of Manasseh, 3 and 4 Ezra, 3 and 4 Maccabees and Psalm 151 (in some cases), it contains the books that are used by the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches. It is about as close to being a one-for-all bible as is humanly possible. The "Apocrypha" are placed, in the Protestant tradition, between the Old and New Testaments. I view those books as anticipatory of Christ, and perhaps appropriately placed for those with such an interest. The ... The language is reasonably modern British-English, not stilted or ancient, but sufficiently reverent to convey the sanctity of the message. It is a slightly compact book and could stand to be a bit larger in size and font, but these are nits. Footnotes are sparse, but this information is easily found elsewhere. Overall, it is a very good translation and collection of scripture.

Easy to read, Reasonably accurate, relatively recent translation of the Word of God.
Easy to read and accurately compares to what Greek I understand in the handful of passages I've compared. It IS English English rather than American or Globish/International, but that's fine and does not reduce its intelligibility at all. To the question about the content being compelling: It's the Holy Bible; of course it's compelling.
