With soaring photography that circles from above then swoops in for the action, TROY is Wolfgang Petersen's majestic presentation of the classic Greek legend. It tells the story of an epic battle over Helen (Diane Kruger), the queen of Sparta, who is kidnapped by her lover Paris (Orlando Bloom), the prince of Troy. This infuriates Helen's husband Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), whose brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox) convinces him to invade Troy. They recruit Achilles (Brad Pitt), the best warrior in Greece, whose bravery, quick feet, and remarkable swordsmanship (not to mention tanned biceps, short kilts, and blond locks) have earned him a reputation that is almost as impressive as his ego. Achilles agrees to fight for Sparta, if only for the fame it will bring him. Even Achilles's mother, in a touching scene, advises him to forget mortal achievements and become a hero who will be remembered throughout history. Along with the invasion of Troy, a series of duels must also be fought: Paris, who is heartbreaking in his lovestruck naiveté, must go up against the enraged Menelaus, and Achilles must settle a score with Hector (Eric Bana), who is fiercely dedicated to protecting his brother Paris and their father, the frail king Priam (Peter O'Toole). When the war finally ignites in its massive proportions, the action is awesome. And as the increasingly dramatic events play out, TROY earns its own timeless reputation among other action-adventure epics such as GLADIATOR and SPARTACUS.

Sad end for a mighty city and it's people.
Troy is an excellent film, the legend told in great form -- all the characters and sets, direction and scenes were well rendered. This is a great film for history buffs, or at least those who cherish the legend. You won't be disappointed (except there is no "love" story between Patroclus and Achilles, as it should have been rendered -- much the same as the film on Alexander didn't even have him kiss Hephaistion once -- not much of a love story there.) All in all an enjoyable film. Helen was gorgeous, and Hector was splendid (even if he was not quite the "hefty hunk" one might have expected him to be; as much as Paris was more wimpy than heroic.) All roles were excellently portrayed, nonetheless. Epic Masterpiece
truly epic movie masterpiece. All actors were superb, i especially was awed by Achilles played by Brad Pitt, i would say highlight of his career. Orlando bloom also shone as Paris, the silly brat pretty boy who triggered the Trojan War with Sparta over a stolen queen. He does the loverboy just right. Beautiful women, with the kind of artifact jewelry any archaeologist would love to dig up. And classical dresses, hair up in fancy braids... lovely, sigh. Can we please just wear that stuff now? Massive war scenes of guys in bronze helmets with spears, arrows and swords, a few of the ancient Greek mythical heroes among them. Several were involved or got killed in this one chapter of ancient Greek history. Very well made movie, i would say it ranks at the top with a handful of others ... truly epic movie masterpiece. Troy, the family version
Troy is a wonderful movie, but as a teacher in a private Christian School, there a few scenes that are not appropriate for my students. The CD that I purchased has been perfectly edited so that my middle school students can take in the fine story and actors' performances without concern that parents might be alarmed at some language and nudity.

A great historical epic that holds your attention. Great story, follows the history with some added features to make the story interesting.
