Product Information

This is the first screen version of Bram Stoker's famous tale based on the smash hit stage production. Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi) arrives in London and immediately works to enrapture and transform into vampires young Lucy Weston (Frances Dade) and her friend Mina Seward (Helen Chandler). After he succeeds in turning Lucy, and Mina's health suddenly deteriorates, Mina's father (Herbert Bunston), calls in a specialist, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (Edward Van Sloan). Van Helsing quickly recognizes Dracula's vampirism, and sets about saving Mina (and in the process, becomes Dracula's archenemy). The film, arguably the most influential of the legend's film versions, launched Lugosi's career in horror movies and forever invited vampires across Hollywood's threshold.

    DRACULA (1979)

    As much as I'd like to give this film 5 stars, I can't. Even blu-ray can't help the weak story and bad acting....no matter how good Frank Langella is. The video quality is moody (good) but I wish the sound was remastered to 5.1 (bad). Still, the 2.0 sound does a decent job as it works when Dolby Pro-Logic is applied. Worth a purchase to complete your Dracula/vampire collection.

    Romantic vampire

    Vampire movies suck - except this one. Frank Langella portrays a creature of the night with romantic inclinations and is better at it than your typical Manhattan blood sucking lawyer. But affection only goes so far when his thirst for blood arises. Origins of the character have been lost over the years, covered by black cloaks, gravestones, fangs and cobwebs. Langella brings it back with a subtle elegance that entrances the viewer as well as Kate Nelligan, who plays Lucy - Dracula's intended mate. The movie is very good, but the transfer to blu-ray is inadequate to the task. It's really not much better than my DVD copy. Given that the visual aspect of the movie was shot in filtered shades of gray I had hoped for an improvement in clarity. The transfer didn't deliver. Interviews ...

    Sexy Vampire

    I hadn't seen this movie since it first came out. It still holds up. This was the beginning of the sexy vampire, Frank Lagella has it in spades. Definitely a must see!

    Oddbanana is selling Dracula with picture of Universal 1930's classic Dracula movie. Oddbanana is sending 1970's Dracula with Frank Langella.

    Do not order Universal 1930's Dracula from oddbanana. You will receive 1970's Dracula with Frank Langella instead of the item pictured. Oddbanana has messed up the written description, and included information on BOTH films. My listing's written description closed with a quote from Roger Elbert about Lugosi's performance. You will not receive the movie with Bela Lugosi.
