Kirkus Reviews, '… written in a lively, jargon-free style, this book enables a deep understanding of the connections between stars, the universe, and fundamental physics. thus, this highly recommendable book may infect amateur astronomers and professionals with the excitement discovery of extreme environments in the universe.' Orion (Socit Astronomique de Suisse), 'Wheeler's is one of those rare popular science books that leaves readers both thoroughly entertained and considerably more expert than when they began. Synopsis
A breathtaking tour of supernovae, black holes, gamma-ray bursts, worm-hole time machines, and the possible birth of baby bubble universes. With the use of lucid analogies, simple language and crystal-clear cartoons, this book makes accessible some of the most exciting and mind-bending objects and ideas in the Universe., In this tour-de-force of the ultimate and extreme in astrophysics, renowned astrophysicist and author J. Craig Wheeler takes us on a breathtaking journey to supernovae, black holes, gamma-ray bursts and adventures in hyperspace. This is no far-fetched science fiction but an enthusiastic exploration of ideas at the cutting edge of current astrophysics. This book follows the tortuous life of a star, from birth, evolution, and death, and leads on to ideas of complete collapse to a black hole, worm-hole time machines, the possible birth of baby bubble universes, and the prospect of a revolutionary view of space and time in a ten-dimensional string theory. Along the way we look at evidence that suggests that the Universe is accelerating, and recent developments in understanding gamma-ray bursts - perhaps the most catastrophic cosmic events of all. With the use of lucid analogies, simple language and crystal-clear cartoons, this book makes accessible some of the most exciting and mind-bending objects and ideas in the Universe.

- -***o (236)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufFair price, item just as described. Also, HANDS DOWN the BEST packing job I've ever seen from a book dealer. Product was packed the way an item from a factory floor might be packed: the book first wrapped in layers of tissue paper and bubble wrap, neatly sealed with tape, and then shrink-wrapped within new, clean, padded cardboard that was in turn surrounded by packing paper inside *another* new, clean box. I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase and HOPE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THE SELLER AGAIN.
- i***l (293)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufA 31-yearold book was truly like brand new and just as described. Well worth the purchase price. The condition was excellent and the item was shipped quickly, having been well protected within the package box with tissue paper and bubble wrap. I am very happy with my purchase and would buy from this seller again. Thank you!
- g***l (292)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufHoly cripes...This is probably the best wrapped book, or item in general, I have ever gotten from eBay. Book was wrapped in tissue paper, bubble wrap, stuck in a box, bubble wrapped, and then stuck in another box that was well taped. For a $20 book. The condition is in near perfect and the shipping was not only well packed, but quickly processed. Highly recommend this eBay seller!
