This is a full-blooded, joyous, intelligent celebration of a beloved cultural icon, with Daniel Craig taking full possession of a role he previously played unconvincingly. I don't know what I expected in Bond No. 23, but certainly not an experience this invigorating., Variety - Putting the "intelligence" in MI6, Skyfall reps a smart, savvy and incredibly satisfying addition to the 007 oeuvre, one that places Judi Dench's M at the center of the action., Miami Herald - Mendes' approach to action is classical and elegant - no manic editing and blurry unintelligible images here - but what makes the movie truly special is the attention he gives his actors., Entertainment Weekly - The third starring the totally captivating cool cucumber Daniel Craig as Agent 007 - is both an elegy and a mission statement. 007 (Daniel Craig) becomes M's only ally as MI6 comes under attack, and a mysterious new villain emerges with a diabolical plan. James Bond's latest mission has gone horribly awry, resulting in the exposure of several undercover agents, and an all-out attack on M16. Meanwhile, as M (Judi Dench) plans to relocate the agency, emerging Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) raises concerns about her competence while attempting to usurp her position, and Q (Ben Whishaw) becomes a crucial ally. Now the only person who can restore M's reputation is 007. Operating in the dark with only field agent Eve (Naomie Harris) to guide him, the world's top secret agent works to root out an enigmatic criminal mastermind named Silva (Javier Bardem) as a major storm brews on the horizon. Albert Finney also stars in the 23rd installment of the long-running spy series. The film was directed by Sam Mendes (AMERICAN BEAUTY, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) and shot by acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins (TRUE GRIT, THE READER, THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD).

Unpatriotic Bond film from Sam Mendes, seeking to undermine traditional British values, Entertaining, but borderline treason.
This is not a traditional Bond movie, in which Bond confronts & challenges an evil villain, to protect the world and keep the British end up. Here, it's ex-agent Silva who confronts M, whom he paints as the evil villain. Bond & M are reactive & not proactive, with Silva continually on top. Silva succeeds in hounding M out of MI6 Thames HQ, a wartime command bunker, the Houses of Parliament, and Bond's ancestral home. Silva succeeds in his mission to humuliate M, and bring about her death. Although Bond survives and takes revenge on Silva, the end of the film makes it clear that something essential has changed. At best, this feels like a 3-1 defeat for Bond. So, anyone looking for a feelgood action movie should go elsewhere. Only the most conservative viewer could maintain that the ... However, Skyfall goes far beyond this, into the realm of symbolism and political comment. Early on, it's made clear that M is no longer a human character, but the incarnation of Imperial Britannia. Her speech to Parliament seeks permission to continue to protect British interests in the old ways. With her humiliation & death, director Mendes wishes to signal the end of an epoch. The final scenes, in which Bond is given new work by the new M, are only necessary for the continuation of the franchise. Mendes has made his point. Politically, oblique reference is made to the bad press the Labour government and the UK security services received during 00s war on terror. The government of the time continually wheeled out security chiefs to shield themselves from liberal political criticism, and M is shown in this capacity. Both the end of Britain's imperial role and it's ruthlessness with its servants are exemplified by the story of Silva's betrayal by M, just before the Hong Kong handover. Finally, M's death in Scotland, a year before the independence referendum, brings the end of empire very close to home. More delicately, Bond is sent up as pale, male, & stale. Apart from being ineffectual, compared to Silva, he's nearly killed by young, black, female agent, Eve, who also toys with Bond, removing his white, middle-aged bristles with a cut-throat razor. Later, she suggests it's time he took a desk job. Finally, the priorities of the franchise prevail, and it is she who takes the desk job. Thus, overall, Mendes's message is to undermine both Britain & Bond. This suggests a suitable target for Bond's next mission. In the real world, I would advise that this film be deleted from the Bond canon, and treated like an off-beat oddity, such as Niven's Casino Royale.

James Bond at his best.
Daniel Craig does an excellent job in this last outing for dame Judy dench. An excellent romp, with feels and spills galore. Probably the best bond film in decades. Thank you.

Regarded as one of the best from the Craig Bond era.
It's good to have a good collection and compilation of the Daniel Craig era. This is a good film if you prefer the idea of not having too many Bond girls around.

Disliked Goldeneye but not Skyfall. Much better story, production, Bond (Craig) and his one liners, Dench as 'M', RIP, and Albert Finley's Kincaide stole the show.
