Fast horses, faster swordplay, lots of romance and intrigue. A tale well told, well worth the viewing.
A classic Sabatini story, well told: In France, near the time of the French Revolution, two young brothers, one bold and challenging, and the other, more studied and cautious in his ways, are out to make their way in the world. One brother challenges a master swordsman (Mel Ferrer) and gets slain for his troubles. The other brother (Stewart Granger) swears revenge while being put on the run from Ferrer. Granger finds refuge from his pursuers by joining a traveling theater group, creating a stage character, the clownish Scaramouche. Eleanor Parker enchants and cajoles Granger and his ongoing romantic efforts, while Janet Leigh finds herself being pursued by both Ferrer and Granger. Ferrer and Granger are fated to collide. Family secrets emerge to taunt, tease and titillate the viewer, to keep them on edge right up to the thrilling ending. Lots of horse chases, swordplay, intrigue and romance to keep the viewer entertained. This is a film well worth the viewing. It's France When France Was Cool -

THE MOVIE IS GREAT THOUFH THE SWORDSMANSHIP IS NO GOOD THE MAIN ACTORS AND CHARACTERS IN THE MOVIE MAKE UP FOR IT! THIS IS A COMPELLING AND ROMANTIC MOVIE.
