A Local Film that is perfectly content to be one!
This is an extraordinarily brilliant piece of cinema, with no ugly compromises in order to reach for a wider audience. The acting, the cinematography, and the content are of the highest order, and the story is told with amazing warmth, overlaid by a really wonderful understanding of mental 'illness', human frailty, ironic 'karma', etc., all the while being uproariously funny. The 'special effects' - all of them hand made, rather than electronic trickery - are easily the best I have ever seen. The Getaway Tram is the film's 'explosive' climax. My favourite movie of all time!!
This is the best, unsung, under-the-radar movie you’ve never heard of!! It’s a wonderfully poignant comedy crime caper. The characters are very recognisable and believable, you’re rooting for them from the start as they plan and carry out a bank job ‘remotely’. There are laughs by the score, nobody gets badly hurt in the process and the three main protagonists grow together to become an unusual ‘surrogate family’. The soundtrack is absolutely splendid and compliments the action so well it’s uncanny. This film is totally and unashamedly “Ozzy” and quite rightly too!! I don’t think Americans or Europeans could’ve carried it off even half as well. It looks ‘low budget’ at times, because it was made on a shoestring, but again, that’s what makes it work so well and adds to the quality rather than detracts from it. There are some great lines within the script and you will find yourself using them immediately after watching this film; dedicated fans are easy to spot, just ask them to look at a cardboard box!!
