A brilliant surrealist horror film
This is a cult classic horror film from 1970 Czechoslovakia. Obviously it's not for everyone, but this is a smart entertaining movie that demands a second watch. The Criterion transfer is amazing (although the sound suddenly drops a couple times). The blu ray is in 4k and it comes with a cool booklet about the movie, director, and actors. Try to get this for about $20. The movie itself is extremely short but there is alot to process. There are many interesting shots, angles, and imagery. The characters are interesting and the lead is a 13 year old girl who delivers on her role with poise and subtlety. The movie is masterfully edited (although the actors have clearly never played any instruments). There are several racy scenes including those featuring the young protagonist, so heads up about that.
