SynopsisHailed by NPR s Fresh Air as part Testament of Youth, part Dorothy Sayers, and part Upstairs, Downstairs, this astonishing debut has already won fans from coast to coast and is poised to add Maisie Dobbs to the ranks of literature s favorite sleuths.Maisie Dobbs isn t just any young housemaid. • Interesting and Informative

It's a lovely series, and I wanted to read them in order. Doing so entailed serious shopping, but I can now do that. I'm midway through the first, and having a fine and wonderful time. Looking forward to re-reading the ones I've already read once all over again. The books are descriptive of the times and customs of the day and the place, the prose is excellent, interest is sustained. My intent is to share these books with those of my friends who may have an interest. I WOULD buy these again.

  • Lightweight with great features

I didn't have any expectations other than it was a 'investigative drama' . The recommendation was to read the Dobbs books in order. I see why as this first book spends a good deal of time providing background to the main character. There is a 'possible crime,' but it is secondary to building the character's profile.

  • First of Series

Book #1 of the Maisie Dobbs detective series..Anyone who enjoys a good mystery series will enjoy this book. A lot of character background that will be useful in future novels. Recommend highly!

  • The Marvelous Ms. Maisie Dobbs!

Terrific series! I’m on book 4 and looking forward to reading them all. If you love historical novels and enjoy mysteries these books are for you, I haven’t had so much fun since Agatha Christie.
