Jack Webb
Saw this in the theater when I was a kid, and the opening scene, in color, freaked me out. Shooting a guy in the face and shooting him again when he is on the ground, with a sawed off shotgun, was my first dose of reality special effects; especially since it was a re-release at the time, and I had already met the characters on tv in black and white. The fight scene was also disturbing at the time, as Friday never got into a fight on tv.
Great to see Jacks expanding into the whole Dragnet world, from his initial entry with He Walked By Night. Read his bio on Wikipedia. He was a remarkable guy. I seem to remember a second feature film, or resurgence pilot with Badge 714, but I may be mistaking it for the second evolution of Dragnet, with Harry Morgan. Sad that he was a smoker, and like all the others,, it got him. Heavy smoking going on in this movie too, and have to chuckle at "product placement"... Seeing things now, that I never noticed before --- like Richard Boone, and Dennis Weaver. Maybe not Oscar material, but Friday will forever be part of the fifties culture. I might even try to get the Copper Clapper Caper on dvd, and put it in this case. :-)
