After 70 years, this still remains the finest recording of Gluck's 1774 revision of his opera for Paris, with the lead role transposed from alto to tenor. Leopold Simoneau, Suzanne Danco, and Pierette Alarie all are superb, as is Hans Rosbaud's conducting.
