Prismacolor, known for their line of fine art supplies, produces several lines of colored pencils, including the Premier line for professional artists. Premier pencils are an investment, and you can protect your investment with high-quality accessories like the Prismacolor Premier pencil sharpener. This sharpening tool is a manual pencil sharpener. It is specifically designed for the Premier line of colored pencils. These pencils are professional grade and made with superior pigments. The pigment is delivered in a soft, thick lead that can be broken if it is treated too harshly. These pencils are simply too valuable to grind them away in pencil sharpeners that break the lead and splinter the wood. These branded sharpeners give you an excellent point with minimum waste. With a height of 3 inches and a diameter of 1.75 inches, the sharpener is big enough to hold securely while you are using it but small enough to toss in your art tote. It is made of black plastic. Parts of the tool are opaque and parts of it are smoked. The sharpening blades are made of high-quality stainless steel to produce a point without twisting and breaking the lead. This sharpener is made with a thin, flip-up lid that covers the ports to keep the shavings in and dust and moisture out. When you open the lid, you will see a wide port and a narrow port. A small tip profile is embossed into the plastic by each one to indicate which is which. If you use the wide port, your pencil will have a shorter and broader point. This is great for shading and covering large areas. If you sharpen with the narrow port, your pencil will have a longer, thinner, and more tapered point. This is better for detail work, intense strokes, and fine lettering. For the best results, you should gently twist the pencil between the blades rather than pushing it down into them. The smoked plastic portion of the sharpener allows you to see when it has become filled with shavings. At that point, you need to remove the top to empty it. There is a thumb divot on the rim of the top that you push in and up to pop the top off. Then, you simply pull the ports out and dump the waste before replacing the ports and snapping the top back on. Professional artists and illustrators have always used quality colored pencils, but more and more amateurs are getting in on the act. The explosion of interest in adult coloring books has driven the people who enjoy them to look for colored pencil sets that deliver good results in a full range of colors.     Best Pencil Sharpener

    With the two different angles on the sharpener, this quickly and easily becomes the best hand held pencil sharpener on the market today. I have purchased one for each of my high school aged daughters as part of their school supplies. They use them from general studies, math, and ultimately art class with high end color pencils. It costs a little more than your average high quality sharpener, but it is wort every penny.

    Excellent sharpener!

    I had purchased two other sharpeners from other companies and had to take them back and was disappointed in the results. I was pleasantly surprised at how great this sharpener works! The pencil points are nice and sharp every time! I have already begun recommending this sharpener to all my friends!

    Great the pobut Could be Better b/c of lid!

    This sharpener is the best sharpener for colored pencils ever. The only downside is that it has the outside piece with the PRISMACOLOR NAME ON IT. This has to Wbe removed from the sharpener to remove the shavings. After a few times of removing the top, it gets aggravating b/c the sharpener starts leaving ink shavings behind, making a mess. This is the only complaint for me. However, I've not been able to find a better manual sharpener than this. I will continue to buy until I find something better. Thanks for a good product!

    prismacolor premier pencil sharpener

    I like it because it does the job. At night to keep from waking people, it helps. It's good for traveling and gives a sharp point much as the electric sharpener. Only draw back is it takes longer than an electric. That was expected and bought it for and got the quality I was hoping. The price, it saved me money than trying to find the little inexpensive pencil sharpeners I had been buying.

    Perfect sharpener

    Good quality sharpener, I have tried several other brands and all of them eat my colored pencils. This sharpener leaves a nice finish on my colored pencils. Some other reviews said that it was hard to open the waste canister but if you are careful it is a piece of cake, just need to know where to open it.
