Product Information

Ovid's sensuous and witty poem brings together a dazzling array of mythological tales ingeniously linked by the idea of transformation, often as a result of love or lust, in which men and women find themselves magically changed into new and sometimes extraordinary beings. Beginning with the creation of the world and ending with the deification of Augustus, Ovid interweaves many of the best known myths and legends of ancient Greece and Rome, including Daedalus and Icarus, Pyramus and Thisbe, Pygmalion, Perseus and Andromeda, and the fall of Troy. Mortals become gods, animals turn to stone, and humans change into flowers, trees, or stars. First published in AD 8, Ovid's Metamorphoses remains one of the most accessible and inspirational introductions to Greek mythology.

  • Terrific Rendition of a Timless Epic Poem

This is the book by the Mythical and Famous "Blind Poet Laureate" of Ancient Rome. It is his Mythological Synthesis Epic and is just a treasure trove of images! I was lucky enough to find a very generous seller who sold me my copy for a very reasonable price and now I can listen, as well as read along with one of the three greatest poets of early Roman culture! One of the many things that make this poem unique, is that it is written in verse and not Ovid's typical couplet structure. I find it interesting to see how the even more ancient Grecian mythological structures were assimilated by the Romans without really sacrificing any real symbolic meaning.
