Gamers take control of the attractive Chizuru as she heads to Kyoto in search of her missing father. Historic visual novel with several references to the Japanese culture
Hakuoki is a mark on the visual novel games. It has a historic compelling story, and if the reader takes time to research about the references, a lot can be learned. Also in Animes and other Japanese shows/games, it is reference the Shinsengumi, and it is nice to know that this games is one of the big reasons to why it is so famous. Story and culture apart, it is a visual novel, so you don’t shoot, destroy or have to do finger training to go through it. The only thing it is required is to be able and to like to read and use your imagination together with the images to see what is fully described, like in a book.

Entertaining Visual Novel
Bought as a gift for my wife. She enjoyed the story VERY much, especially how it changed depending on the path you took. The art is well-drawn even if it's not exactly pushing the PS3's graphics capabilities. Voice acting is only in Japanese but the voice work sounded good from what we could tell. The hair chopstick, comb, and charm included in this edition are nice little extras. Recommended for fans of romanticized history and handsome male characters. It's a visual novel so it's not going to have any character control beyond conversation choices and so on.
